Update, 9:45 a.m.: A wandering bull near Exit 19 was responsible for a massive traffic tie-up on Interstate 24 Thursday morning.

“The bull has been captured and been returned to its owner,” said Sgt. John Grinder with Tennessee Highway Patrol.

Drivers arriving at work Thursday morning reported being stuck in stand-still traffic for as long as 90 minutes in the westbound lanes near mile marker 22 before the lanes cleared.

At 9:45, traffic was clearing in the westbound lanes, where it had backed up almost to New Hope Road.

Update, 9:15 a.m.: Eastbound traffic has cleared. Westbound traffic has a residual 4-mile backup, about 3 miles out from Exit 24.

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Interstate 24 between Clarksville and Nashville was blocked during rush hour this morning, and could be closed through 10 a.m.

The incident in the eastbound lanes at mile marker 19 was reported at 8:13 a.m., and the eastbound lanes were closed. Westbound traffic was affected with the roadway closed. Eastbound traffic was being diverted to alternate routes.

It was expected to be cleared by 10:13.

As of 9 a.m., eastbound traffic was backed up about 2 1/2 miles from Exit 19. Westbound traffic was backed up about 2 1/2 miles from Exit 24.
