CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The COVID-19 pandemic and school shutdown has caused an increased need for children to be provided with food and now that it’s summer the need has increased.

The Kiwanis Club of Clarksville answered the call to help with a donation of $5,500 to the local Project F.U.E.L. on Tuesday.

The “Downtown” Club is using funds not spent for food during the meeting shutdown matched by a grant from the Kiwanis International’s Children Fund.

Project F.U.E.L. feeds up to 6,000 children per week during the summer and during school weekends. This is a 160% increase since the pandemic.

“During our 100th Anniversary we are pleased to help feed local children though this unique program,” said President Wes Sumner. “Several of our members volunteer and have donated to F.U.E.L. since it started three years ago.  We appreciate the grant from the Children’s Fund to double our contribution. This is a great example of how kids need Kiwanis.”

Kiwanis is devoted to helping children of all ages through its many committees and projects. At 114 members, the local Club is the third largest in all the KY-TN District of Kiwanis. To learn more visit ClarksvilleKiwanis.org.

The Downtown Kiwanis Club also inducted Cory Carroll, shown on the left below, as a new member of the club on Tuesday, and are looking for more individuals to increase their membership.
