HOPKINSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The Alhambra Theatre marquee first lit up Hopkinsville’s Main Street 92 years ago.
Several gathered for a drive-through celebration on Thursday, May 28 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Opening just a year before the Great Depression, the historic landmark served as an invitation to be entertained and to share memorable experiences with friends and neighbors. While the curtain may be temporarily closed, the same is still true.
Popcorn, candy, t-shirts, stickers, kids items and additional merchandise will be available to reserve online or at the pick-up line in front of the marquee at 507 South Main Street.
A few drove through to celebrate the occasion.
“We’re just celebrating the Alhambra’s 92 birthday,” ,” said Margaret Prim, Executive Director of the Pennyroyal Arts Council. “It opened on this day in May 1928. A silent film was on and we just thought it was a way to kind of stay relevant, to see our patrons who we miss so much and another way to have a small fundraiser and birthday party for the theatre.”
