CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) — Outdoor enthusiasts can head to the woods this weekend as campgrounds across Tennessee begin to reopen.

Tennessee State Parks announced reservations are available starting May 15 for their 38 camping parks. Those who had previous reservations May 1 – 14 were able to keep their space, but new reservations were restricted.

Park officials are requesting visitors continue to abide by social distancing requirements including maintaining a six-foot space between other visitors.

With parks options available across the state, officials also recommend opting for a trip closer to home vs a long drive.

When in doubt, contact the park rangers and they can answer specific questions about their facilities.

For all Tennessee State Parks, day use rentals, of pavilions and shelters, will begin June 1.

Some campgrounds in the area, not operated by State Parks, will not reopen until June 1. The Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District announced campgrounds in Kentucky and Tennessee will reopen in June.

The Army Corps of Engineers manages campsites including Percy Priest Lake, Cheatham Lake, and Old Hickory. (see full list here)

Tennessee campgrounds will reopen on June 1, Kentucky, which is following a different phased reopening schedule, open on June 11.

Any pre-existing reservation can be modified now through May 25.  After that date, reservations will be cancelled with full refunds issued.

All camping facilities will experience modified openings and restricted areas as phased reopening takes effect. Swimming pools in all state parks and Army Corps of Engineers managed campsites will remain closed through 2020.
