CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Clarksville High softball graduates four seniors this year who will leave behind an incredible legacy. During their Lady Wildcat career, they posted a 93-19 overall record. They won the Waverly Diamond Classic, the Commando Classic, were three-time regular-season District 10-AAA champions, won the District 10-AAA Tournament as juniors and qualified all three years for regionals.

“They all had amazing careers and were looking to lead Clarksville to a historic season in their senior year,” said Clarksville softball coach Brian Rush. “They are all great kids and excelled both on the field and in the classroom.”

Madison “Maddie” Berner

Position:  Centerfielder

College: Will play at Austin Peay on scholarship

Awards:

2018: 1st Team All-District

2019:  District 10-AAA Player of the Year, TSCA All-State, 2nd Team All-Midstate

Maddie was a four-year starter in the outfield.

As a freshman, hit three home runs, drove in 15 runs, batted .358 with an on-base percentage of .526 (2nd highest on team) and led the team with nine stolen bases

As a sophomore, led the team with six home runs, four triples, 13 doubles, 45 hits, 49 runs scored and 10 walks. She also batted .421 (3rd highest on team), had an on-base percentage of .576 (2nd highest on team), 32 RBIs (2nd highest on team) and 19 stolen bases (2nd highest on team)

As a junior, led the team with 58 hits, 65 runs scored, 63 RBIs, six triples and 13 home runs. She also batted .468 (2nd on team), had an on-base percentage of .582 (2nd on team), recorded 10 walks (3rd on team) and 13 stolen bases (3rd on team)

As a senior, in six preseason/regular season games, she had 10 hits in 19 at bats including two doubles and a home run
Summary:

“Maddie became a starter from the time she entered CHS and became the anchor in the CHS outfield,” Rush said. “She grew into one of the best outfielders in CHS history, roaming centerfield and robbing other teams of sure base hits. As a leadoff batter, she set the tone for one of the most prolific offenses in District 10-AAA history.”

Madisen Blackwell

Position:  3rd base and Pitcher
College: Will play at Union University on scholarship
Awards:
2018: District 10-AAA Player of the year, TSCA All-State
As a freshman, saw action in 24 games, collected 11 hits and one home run. She pitched in six games, got one start and struck out 12.

As a sophomore, was the team’s top pitcher and also its clean-up hitter. She led the team with a .444 batting average and had 39 RBIs. She also had 44 hits (2nd on team), nine doubles (2nd on team) and five home runs (2nd on team). On the mound, she pitched in 24 games, started 19, won 16 and had 96 strikeouts

As a junior, batted .372, had an on-base percentage of .509, tallied 35 hits, scored 20 runs, recorded 30 RBIs, nine doubles and four home runs. She pitched in 10 games, won all five of her starts and had an ERA of .081

As a senior in six preseason/regular season games, had two home runs and pitched a three-hit shutout over Blackman.

Summary:

“As a sophomore, Madisen did everything,” Rush said. “She dominated both on the mound and at the plate. Her dominance helped lead us to a district title and earned her Player of the Year. After battling illness early on in her junior year, Madisen became a stalwart at 3rd base and continued to provide hits and power for the offense.”

Madison Haught

Ht:  5’7

GPA:  3.0

Position: Pitcher
College: Will play at Calhoun College (AL) on scholarship

Awards:

2019: 1st Team All-District

As a freshman, appeared in three games and got first career hit, RBI and run scored

As a sophomore, pitched in 20 games, led team with nine saves and struck out 72 batters in 52 innings

As a junior, pitched in 23 games, started 14, had a record of 15 wins, no losses and five saves. Pitched in 94 innings, struck out 96 and had an ERA of 1.11

As a senior, played in six preseason/regular season games and hit two home runs. On the mound, pitched in three games, had a record of two wins, no losses, allowed two runs, one earned in 10 innings and struck out 15.

Summary: “Madison is a power pitcher who had dominated the opposition for two years and was looking towards to an even more dominating senior season,” Rush said. “At the start of her senior season, Madison was proving her worth at the plate as well. Having already hit two home runs in six games, she was set to be a key cog in our lineup.”

Arie Milam

Ht: 5’6

GPA:  3.7

Position: 2nd base and outfield

College: Will play at Dyersburg State on scholarship
Awards:

2019: 1st Team All-District Tournament Team

As a freshman, appeared in 23 games, scored 15 runs and stole four bases

As a sophomore, started in left field and converted to a slap hitter, batted 341 with two doubles, 18 runs, 10 RBIs and 10 stolen bases

As a junior, started at 2nd base, batted .326, scored 36 runs, had 24 RBIs, hit one home run and stole 15 bases

As a senior, played in six preseason/regular season games and had eight hits including a home run and a triple

Summary:

“After converting to slap hitting, Arie moved into the starting lineup as a sophomore and became a triple threat to get on via the bunt, slap or by swinging away,” Rush said. “As a junior, she emerged as an incredible 2nd baseman, providing several ESPN highlight-worthy plays with her great range and strong arm.”
