MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Tenn (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Close to 19 percent of registered voters made their way out to the polls in Montgomery County Tuesday, March 3  for the 2020 Presidential Preference Primary and Montgomery County Primary.

President Donald Trump took the primary win on the Republican side of the election with close to 95 percent, and Candidate Joe Biden topped the Democratic side of the primary at 43 percent in Montgomery County.

Locally in the Republican primary, it was Jeff Bryant Jr. over Kevin Griffy in the race for Montgomery County Highway Supervisor.  Bryant will face Independent Candidates Stayton Black Jr. and Bryan Knight in the August 6 Montgomery County General Election.  No Democratic  candidate qualified for primary.

In other races on the ballot, Republican Katy Olita won the primary for Circuit Court Judge Part-V District 19 race and Republican Erinne Hester won the primary for Montgomery County Assessor of Property.  Neither Olita or Hester faced qualified candidates on the Democratic side.

Elizabeth Black, Administrator of Elections for Montgomery County said the primary election went smoothly with all 29 polling places operational even after the weather that passed through.  “Voters turned out throughout the day and we ended up with an almost 19 percent turnout, it was 18.9.  That was up from the six percent that had turned out during early voting,” said Black.

There are 116,346 registered voters in Montgomery County.
