CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The community is asked to come together for a special 5k run this weekend benefitting Manna Café Ministries of Clarksville.
The run will be held Saturday, Feb. 15 and begins at Beachaven Winery at 1100 Dunlop Ln. Check-in time is 8:30 a.m., and runners depart at 10 a.m.
The event is presented by New Spring Thrift Store.
APSU student Zac Gillman, who organized the run, has been planning 5k runs for nonprofits in the area for the past four years. He has volunteered with Manna in the past, and felt the charity was the right choice.
“Obviously it’s a great cause,” he said. “They’ve been opening up warming shelters and doing many things within the city. We’re always willing to help out with it.”
Manna Café is a faith-based organization in Clarksville that provides food, shelter, and other assistance to the less fortunate in the area. Find more about their mission here.
This year’s 5k is based on a “donate what you can” method. Participants can choose to pay the flat rate of $15 at registration or donate an additional amount. Anyone who wishes to donate but not participate in the race can sign up as a ‘ghost runner’. Registration information can be found here.
Runners are also encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to the event.
Sponsors include New Spring Thrift Store, Sigma Phi Epsilon, Beachaven Vineyards & Winery, Manna Café Ministries, Clarksville Running Club, Project Yesu, Road ID, Grace Community Church, Miller-Motte Technical College, Fantastics, Riverview Inn, Best & Son Construction, Flowers by Tara, and Jewelry World.
