CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Austin Peay State University hosted its 5th Annual Polar Plunge Thursday, January 30 at the Foy Center Pool.

Participants donated canned goods to the APSU Food Pantry for their registration. Students jumped into the pool both in teams and as individuals. The largest team was made up of APSU Nursing majors.

“It was terrifying,” according to APSU student Katie Eden. “I froze in a moment of shock because it was so cold, and I was scared that I couldn’t get back to the ladder.”

Two participants were wearing GoPro cameras on their heads as they jumped in the pool. Shelby Ledbetter talked about the experience, saying, “My brother has a GoPro, but I didn’t expect it to fall off my head when I jumped in. I picked it back up and screamed into it, but it made for a good video.”

At the time of the plunge, the water in the pool was 40°F.
