CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Social media was buzzing with rumors of an active shooter at Governors Square Mall in Clarksville on Saturday afternoon. However, Clarksville Police report the rumors are untrue. At 5:54pm on Saturday, November 16 Clarksville Police received a call regarding a fight in progress at the mall.

Before law enforcement arrived on the scene, dispatch advised they received reports of witnesses seeing a gun.

There was never a discharge of a firearm reported.

Officer Williams and Sergeant Ferguson arrived on the scene and monitored people leaving the area. Law enforcement reported that no one came out acting suspiciously or carrying a weapon.

Sergeant Doolittle, who was working off-duty security for a business in the mall, advised the other officers that he did not come across anything that would raise suspicion inside.

Officers remained vigilant to ensure public safety. As Officer Williams moved through the inside of the mall, he found two victims who reported being jumped by a group of boys. One of the female witnesses stated she saw one of the suspects running out of the mall with a gun in his hand. She stated the suspect then got into a truck and left.

A police report has been filed for the assault, however neither victim reported a gun. At no time did any officer announce for the mall to be locked down. No shots were fired, and no active shooter response mode was initiated.

According to Clarksville Police, in the event of a mall lock down, it would be at the discretion of the mall personnel, or the individual stores. Officers completed their safety walk through before leaving the scene.
