CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – On this week’s episode of the Clarksville’s Conversation podcast, Katie Gambill and Charlie Koon had a chat with Anthony “Crimson” Mayweather, owner and founder of Tried-N-True Pro Wrestling in Clarksville.
Crimson is a Fort Campbell veteran who spent five years in the Army and served two tours in Iraq during his time in the service. On his second deployment, while watching wrestling DVDs with his fellow soldiers, Crimson decided he wanted to transition from the Army into a career in professional wrestling.
“I’ve always been a lifetime wrestling fan, since my earliest memory as a young kid,” Crimson said.
After leaving the military, he researched his options and ended up training at a wrestling school in Nashville. Approximately one year later he was signed by IMPACT Wrestling, a company he still works for today.
“I’ve just been very fortunate to stay in the wrestling industry for so long and get so many of the opportunities I’ve had,” he said.
In 2015, Crimson worked to bring pro wrestling to Clarksville by creating his own promotion company, Tried-N-True Pro Wrestling. The company holds live wrestling events in Clarksville and donates a portion of proceeds to military-related nonprofits in the community.
Tried-N-True has brought several big name stars to the city, including David Arquette, Billy Corgan, Jeff Hardy, and Jeff Jarrett.
“I loved the community and I knew there was potential to do live wrestling events here in Clarksville,” Crimson said. “People want something to do.”
In addition to his promotion company, Crimson has also established Tried-N-True Academy in the area to give others an opportunity to learn and train in the field.
The Tried-N-True Academy is located at Olympic 24 Fitness (2040 Woodlawn Road) in Woodlawn, TN.
Crimson’s latest project is a live event happening April 12 at Fort Campbell.
IMPACT Wrestling, Tried-N-True Pro Wrestling, and Fort Campbell MWR have partnered for Salute to the Troops. The show is free for all military personnel and their families.
“That’s huge for me. Being a veteran and wanting to give back in the form of entertainment and pro wrestling , I’ve always wanted to be able to do a promotion on Fort Campbell with the troops,” Crimson said. “I’m excited for it.”
