CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Several elected officials from Montgomery County have officially endorsed Marsha Blackburn in the Republican primary for a U.S. Senate seat from Tennessee.

The seat became open when incumbent Sen. Bob Corker announced his retirement. Former Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen is the Democratic candidate.

“Montgomery County includes the best that Tennessee has to offer: active duty military men and women, veterans, educational opportunity, and a growing economy. It is truly an honor to represent Montgomery County and Fort Campbell in Congress, and I am so grateful for the support of so many here. I will continue to fight for you every day in the United States Senate,” Blackburn said in a statement.

Local officials had this to say about Blackburn:

“Tennessee next senator needs to be someone who looks out for our veterans and our active duty service men and women. This year, Marsha fought for the NDAA which fully funded a 2.6 percent pay raise for our troops. Marsha is the type of senator Tennesseans deserve.”Montgomery County Mayor Jim Durrett

“This November, the residents of Montgomery County have the opportunity to elect a proven advocate for all Tennesseans. Marsha Blackburn has proven herself time and time again to be very straight forward in her fight to firmly represent the values of our 7th Congressional District. I have no doubt that Marsha will continue to represent all of Tennessee with the same tenacity, as our next United States Senator. Tennessee needs Marsha Blackburn and that is why I ask you to join me in voting for her in the August Primary, and November elections.”Sheriff John S. Fuson

“Tennessee needs a true conservative U.S. Senator who understands the Constitution is not a living document. Marsha Blackburn will support judicial nominees who recognize the Constitution says what is says–and not what five justices on the Supreme Court think it ought to say. Marsha stands for Tennessee values, and is our only choice for the U.S. Senate, period.” – State Senator Mark Green

“Tennesseans need a senator who will fight tirelessly for them and their values. Marsha Blackburn is the only one we can trust to do that. She has my unwavering support.”State Representative Curtis Johnson

“Marsha Blackburn should be Tennessee’s next U.S. senator because she has fought tirelessly for our veterans and our service members. Stand with our troops. Stand with Marsha.”State Representative Jay D. Reedy
