CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) A ceremony was held Thursday at First Baptist Church in Clarksville to remember and honor the late Pastor Jimmy Terry, Sr. with the naming of the Pastor Jimmy Terry, Sr. Memorial Highway.

Close to 350 people attended the ceremony including his widow Sister Servella Terry, members of his family and  the congregation from Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church on Market Street.

The Montgomery County delegation of the Tennessee General Assembly sought passage of a bill to honor the life, legacy and memory of Terry after his passing in June of 2017. The legislation to install signs along the roadway was unanimously approved by the Tennessee House and Senate.

The section of Providence Blvd., designated as the Pastor Jimmy Terry, Sr. Memorial Highway, is marked by signs on Highway 41-A near the Red River Bridge, Market Street and Peachers Mill Rd.

Terry is perhaps most remembered for his well known yard signs “Jesus is the reason for the season” and “Easter is all about Jesus” which are still found throughout Clarksville-Montgomery County during those annual holidays.

“What an iconic and beloved figure Pastor Terry was for Clarksville. This is fitting that we should honor him, making sure people remember his story which is part of our history,” said State Representative Joe Pitts, who was one of those instrumental in getting the highway designation.
