CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The City of Clarksville’s Christmas on the Cumberland, a Southeast Tourism Society’s Top 20 Event for the sixth year in a row, is sure to create lasting memories this holiday season as thousands experience the captivating displays of over one million lights to include trees wrapped in new blue lights! Join the City of Clarksville and US Bank as we celebrate Christmas on the Cumberland’s 15th year with a grand opening ceremony, Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. at McGregor Park’s RiverWalk.
The grand opening will feature the official lighting of the Cumberland by Mayor Kim McMillan along with special guests, Channel 4 News Snowbird and DreamWorks Animation’s Gingy, the most famous of all gingerbread men, for a heartwarming hug that you can capture with your own camera. Enjoy free hot chocolate and treats from Jersey Mike’s. Drinks and sweets will be available for purchase.
Christmas on the Cumberland will be open nightly from 5-10 p.m., Sunday through Thursday and 5-11 p.m., Fridays & Saturdays through January 4, 2014. Admission to the event is free.
Family friendly activities will take place multiple Friday and Saturday nights from 6-8 p.m. Kids will have the opportunity to decorate cookies, create crafts, and enjoy special performances by local dance groups. The Christmas Cookie Bake-Off that was once a feature of “Downtown for the Holidays” is now part of Christmas on the Cumberland! Enter your favorite recipe for a chance to win prizes! “Giving on the Cumberland” is a new feature this year that encourages visitors to help those in need. From November 26-December 21, “ornaments” with items of need from the following non-profit organizations will be placed on the window panels of the museum: Hope Pregnancy Center, The Fisher House, Serenity House Women’s Shelter, Montgomery County Friends of the Shelter, Junior Auxiliary, Clarksville Montgomery County School System. Visitors to Christmas on the Cumberland will have the opportunity to take an “ornament” and bring their donation to the Parks & Recreation main office, or on the scheduled drop off night to the museum, December 21.
