CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Austin Peay State University (APSU) issued a safety alert Monday afternoon regarding a shots fired call.

According to the alert, Clarksville police received a report of shots fired in the Lincoln Homes area.

The suspect fled north, away from the APSU campus. The suspect is described as a black male with dreadlocks wearing a gray hoodie.

Clarksville police later issued a news release that said they responded to the call around 1 p.m. A man in the 22 building told officers he heard a knock at the door and answered it. There was a female acquaintance at the door with an unknown male. As he opened the door, the unknown male displayed a handgun and attempted to enter the residence.

He said he fought with the unknown male over the handgun and during the altercation, the firearm was discharged.

The female and unknown male fled from the scene. Police have been in the area trying to locate them.

“There were some inconsistencies noted while interviewing the victim,” CPD spokesman Jim Knoll said. “Based on the information provided, there does not appear to be any danger to the public in general.”
