CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) Austin Peay State University President Alisa White visited the Clarksville Rotary Club recently and spoke about some of the exciting things taking place at the university.

White talked about one of the school’s major goals which is to increase enrollment, especially in two areas, international students and graduate students. When it comes to international students, White talked about the global society and global economy.

“Our students need to be able to explain how the world works and understand people who are not like them. They need to understand different foods, different cultures, different religions and different economies. We believe it will enrich ort entire student body,” said White.

Austin Peay has a new Art & Design building which started classes last fall. White said the building features an animation studio, drawing studio, graphic design, painting, sculpture, welding and a darkroom for photography.

The university is proposing plans for a Health Professions building in the future to allow for growth and expansion of the schools nursing, psychology, social, nursing and health related educational programs. Also in the works is a Barnes & Noble Bookstore to be located at the corner of 4th and College St.

White praised the APSU Athletics Department talking about Governors Head Football Coach Will Healy being named Ohio Valley Conference Coach of the Year and Volleyball Head Coach Taylor Mott who was named OVC Coach of the Year along with winning the OVC Volleyball Championship.

The president also recognized APSU Director of Athletics Ryan Ivey, the men’s and women’s basketball, golf and track & field teams saying the university’s master plan for the future includesAPSU President Alisa White, an addition to the Dunn Center as funds become available.

White ended her visit with Clarksville Rotary talking about the importance of Austin Peay and what would happen if the university wasn’t in the community saying that APSU is the fifth largest employer in Clarksville-Montgomery County.

“Our students, our faculty and our staff contribute to the economy by what they buy, but we also have thousands of visitors who come to attend an event, a lecture, a recital and a game. We are an economic center, an event center, a fun center for Clarksville-Montgomery County and I really appreciate the support we have from you, White said.
