CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Clarksville native and NBA basketball player Alex Poythress held a basketball skills camp Monday and Tuesday at his alma mater, Northeast High School.
After his high school career, Alex moved on to play for the basketball powerhouse Kentucky. At the end of this year’s NBA regular season Poythress was on the Philadelphia 76ers roster.
The camp was grouped in two sessions. The morning session had about 70 kids from K-6th grade and the afternoon session also had about 70 kids from the 7th-12th grade.
Alex invited several local basketball standouts, teammates, family, and coaches to help him with the camp. Terry Boykin (Playmaker Basketball), Marqua McCuller (Road to Glory Basketball Training), Kenny Bennett (Train 360), Northeast coaches John Stigall, Eric Purvis and Tommy Stanley, former APSU player Zavion Williams, former Lady Gov Tiasha Gray, former Tennessee Lady Vol Bashara Graves, and current/former Northeast Players were all camp leaders.
Players formed small groups and ran through drills and games to help with their basketball skills.
Each camper was given a t-shirt and basketball and had the opportunity to take a picture with Alex and get an autograph if they wanted. Lunch was provided by camp sponsor Zaxby’s.
