CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The National Weather Service says the coldest air of the season so far will hit Middle Tennessee Friday night into Saturday morning.
Lows will be anywhere from 14 to 20 degrees.
Pets should be brought inside during cold temperatures. If you must be outside, dress in warm layers and keep emergency supplies in your vehicle.
Temperatures will also dip significantly Thursday night with lows in the upper teens to lower 20s.
With this cold weather over the next few days, NWS says you may see a natural phenomenon knows as frost flowers.
“When the ground is not already frozen the sap in the stem of the plants will expand, causing long, thin cracks to form along the length of the stem. Water is then drawn through the cracks via capillary action and freezes upon contact with the air. As more water is drawn through the cracks, it pushes the thin ice layers further from the stem, causing a thin petal to form. They usually are visible just after daybreak when temperatures are very cold,” meteorologist Bobby Boyd said on Facebook.
