“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes, and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain; for the former things are passed away”-Revelations 21:4.
Mrs. Corneille Jennifer Hughes, daughter of Mrs. Mary (Brooks) Thomas and the late Johnny Baker, was born in Trenton, New Jersey on July 30, 1960. She entered into eternal rest on Sunday, July 24, 2016, at Sarah Cannon Cancer Treatment Center in Nashville, TN, after several months of declining health.
Corneille, affectionately known as “Poochie”, attended North Hardin High School in Radcliff, KY. Always determined to grow and expand, Corneille was the first African-American color guard and cheerleader at North Hardin, after the desegregation of schools. Poochie went on to give 30 years of continuous dedication to the United States Civil Service, serving in the dentistry, forensics, and the medical coding fields.
Coming from a blended family, Corneille was devoted to keeping her family intact, and embracing each ones friends and extended family. For those who know her, it was nothing to be invited to her house for either the holidays, or just to catch up. You could be sure to enjoy some of her delicious food and her southern hospitality.
Corneille was preceded in death by her loving adopted father, Mr. John Thomas; her eldest sister, Mrs. Sheila Ross Odom; and preceded recently by her father-in-law, Mr. Joe Brady Brim, Jr. Those left to cherish her memory: her loving husband of 27 years, Mr. Michael G. Hughes of Clarksville; two sons, David L. Reed and Meko R. Hughes both of Clarksville; a devoted and caring goddaughter, Amanda Gillespie of El Paso, TX; and godson, Spencer Charles of Kennesaw, GA; three granddaughters, Trinity Reed, McKenna Hughes, and Aubrynn Hughes; one grandson, Brady Hughes; her loving mother, Mrs. Mary Alice Thomas, and brother, Mr. Vincent S.
