CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Clarksville police have released the name of the toddler hit and killed by a vehicle on E. Knollwood Circle Monday evening, as well as the driver who was involved.
Police said the driver, 27-year-old Joseph Pennington, was leaving a parking space at a building with multiple town houses on E Knollwood Cir.
Before leaving, he saw a child on a scooter further up the road, but did not see any other children. As he started backing out of his parking space, two individuals were signaling him to stop his vehicle.
When he got out of his vehicle he found that he had struck 2-year-old Delaney Garner.
Delaney had been playing in the grassy area between the townhouse buildings and then crossed behind Pennington’s vehicle as he was backing out of his parking space.
She was transported by EMS to Tennova and died from her injuries.
This is still an ongoing investigation. However, at this time, no one has been charged and charges are not anticipated.
Funeral services for Delaney have been set for May 20.
Family friend Erika Bowles has been attempting to collect donations to help the family pay for funeral expenses. Donations can be made directly to Sykes Funeral Home.
Madison Funeral Home in Nashville will donate an urn for the girl’s cremation, and Flowers by Tara will donate a casket spray.
“I know if it was my child and I needed help, I would want people to help,” Bowles said.
