CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Residents in Montgomery and Todd Counties say they have been hearing what sounded like explosions over the past few days, which can be traced to demolition work going on at the Hemlock Semi-Conductor site near the Tennessee/Kentucky border.

Late last year Hemlock made the decision they were not going to operate the site so plans were made to demolish part of the facility. Mike Evans, Executive Director of the Clarksville-Montgomery Industrial Development Board talked about what was going on at the site.

“It is my understanding that what they are working on doing is demolishing the production part, the process part of the Hemlock Semi-Conductor facility. It means that a lot of the steel and the tanks and those type of structures will come down,” Evans said.

Evans added that the major buildings that are on the south and west ends of the site will probably remain because they are reusable and don’t contain Hemlock Semi-Conductor equipment.

There were reports of loud explosion type noise on the morning of November 5 and Tuesday evening, November 10. At this time there is no official word on the exact cause of the noise or how long the demolition is expected to continue.
