CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Clarksville police say the suspect in the killing of a toddler on Princeton Drive nearly two weeks ago is an Army Private with the 101st Airborne Division.

Zackery Alexander of Hopkinsville was taken into custody Wednesday night, just hours after Governor Bill Haslam announced a $15,000 reward in the case. He is charged with Criminal Homicide.

On October 4, 2015 Brandon Jimenez, a Fort Campbell soldier, was shot several times and 2-year-old Joseph Bankston was shot and killed.

The police statement said the boy’s shooting was “intentional.”

Judge Ray Grimes set Alexander’s bond at $5 million.

According to Clarksville Police, the investigation has been a collaborative law enforcement effort with assistance from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) Agents , TBI Crime Lab and Ft. Campbell Criminal Investigations Division (CID).
