CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Hundreds of students and faculty at Kenwood High School held a “blue out” to raise awareness of the bullying problem that plagues high schools across this nation.

Monday Kenwood High School was a sea of blue. This day, and several other activities planned for the future, were the brain child of Kenwood Junior, Harold Hairston. He decided to get involved in this cause when he lost a friend to suicide after they were bullied.

Hairston has also worked to build a #teamnobully facebook group for his peers. The group has almost 4000 members but Harold wanted to impact his community here in Clarksville in a larger way by bringing the fight against bullying to the forefront in schools. Hairston gathered help from administrators, the school social worker Ms. Tomecia Slade, and the Student Government Association and their sponsor Ms. Jamie Wright to get the word out.

Ms. Wright commented, “I am so very proud of Harold. He has a vision of how to make his community better and he knows the first step is awareness. We hope as a school to challenge other Student Government groups at other schools across the county to hold similar events. Harold said he wants to see this go city -wide and we hope as a school working together we can make that dream a reality.”
