CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – It’s finally here: Football season at Austin Peay.
And this week’s edition of “Inside Austin Peay” will reflect just that, as Head Coach Kirby Cannon and Football Color Analyst Van Stokes will join Brian Rives and discuss the Governors heading into their season opener this Saturday afternoon, with a 4 p.m. kick-off at home against Mercer.
“The tuning up is over, it’s time to take the stage,” said Rives, the weekly host of the show. “We know after last Saturday morning’s scrimmage that the team is as ready as it can be, and they are ready to square off against an opponent, so we will talk about the Govs, and get a little insight into their opponent this week, the Mercer Bears, from Coach Cannon himself.”
The football focus will continue as Van Stokes joins the show this week live from Buffalo Wild Wings. Stokes is the long-time color commentator for Governors football, getting set to tee it up for his 16th season this year.
“Van has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to this program, being with Austin Peay through four different head coaches, the non-scholarship years, and now the rebuilding of the program,” Rives said.
Stokes has been a mainstay for athletic broadcasts through the years at the university, handling broadcasts for men’s and women’s basketball. He is currently the main play-by-play voice for the Governor’s baseball program.
“Inside Austin Peay” is broadcast on ESPN Clarksville 100.7FM/540 AM every Tuesday at 5 p.m. live from Buffalo Wild Wings, located at 110 South Hampton Place off Wilma Rudolph Boulevard.
