CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – With cold temperatures forecast from below freezing for the high down to single digits for the remainder of the week Warming Shelters are being opened in Clarksville for the second time this winter to help those who may not have a warm place to go.
New Providence United Methodist Church , 1317 Fort Campbell Boulevard and Grace Church of the Nazarene, 3135 Trenton Road opened the doors to their facilities at 4:00 p.m. Monday, January 20 and are expected to remain open until at least noon on Friday, January 24.
Kathy Hunt with New Providence United Methodist Church talked about what steps her Church was taking to help. “We’re set up with coats, we’re set up with hot meals so we’re equipped with most everything that we need for whoever needs a place to stay getting in out of the cold,” Hunt said.
Pastor Steve Estep at Grace Church of the Nazarene also said his Church was ready to assist those in need. “We’ve provided a spot and together we’re working on meals and a warm place to stay not just for the night but really around the clock. It’s an opportunity during this cold snap to show some gracious hospitality,” Estep said.
Both Warming Shelter locations are in immediate need of volunteers to register guests, serve meals, and distribute warm clothing. To volunteer, sign up online through Volunteer Clarksville or call “Boots” Bryant at Manna Café at 931-980-9653.
