CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) A Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) sign was dedicated Saturday to remember two young people killed in a crash involving a drunk driver in 2016.

The sign on the 101st Airborne Division Parkway near Trenton Road memorializes Samia Lucas and Joshua Guillén Lopez who were both 18 at the time of their deaths.

The two had just celebrated Joshua’s 18th birthday when their vehicle was struck by a truck driven by Ho Young Kang, who pleaded guilty to two counts of vehicular homicide and was sentenced to 10 years. Kang was not injured in the accident early in the morning of October 23.

Samia’s mother Sherita Bussey and Joshua’s mother Carmen Lopez uncovered a copy of the sign in a brief remembrance ceremony at the Church of Christ at Trenton Crossing, just down the street from where the TDOT sign was placed on the roadway.

Both of the victim’s mothers thanked Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), Tennessee State Representative Joe Pitts and TDOT who were instrumental in the placement of the sign which along with the victims names says “Impaired driving Costs Innocent Lives.”
