CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Clarksville police successfully negotiated to end a standoff with an armed man who was threatening to harm himself in a field near the Exit 11 and Huntco Drive.
The incident began around 3:30 p.m. Thursday and ended at 4:20 a.m. Friday morning.
According to Clarksville Police Department spokesman Jim Knoll, there was never any danger to the public during the 11 hour standoff which ended without injury or incident. Knoll said no criminal charges will be filed.
Knoll said the man never pointed the firearm at anyone but himself.
The negotiators were eventually able to establish phone contact with the man.
The man kept moving his pickup to different parts of the field, intermittently displaying a handgun, and breaking off communication with the negotiators.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Services Unit arrived on scene and worked in conjunction with CPD to help secure the perimeter and negotiate with the man.
After almost 12 hours of negotiations and having the area around him locked down, the man voluntarily came out of his pickup and was taken into custody without incident around 4:20 a.m. There was a loaded handgun found in the vehicle.
