CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) Clarksville has moved closer to forming a Metropolitan Government Charter Commission with the city’s announcement of the five city members of the commission at Thursday’s City Council meeting.

Mayor Kim McMillan has nominated:

Debbie Frasier-Clarksville Finance Director.

Keith Lampkin-Clarksville Community and Economic Office Director.

Mark Smith-Retired former Clarksville Chief of Police.

Lynn Stokes-Retired former Clarksville Internal Audit Director

Ray Williams-Clarksville Fire Rescue Deputy Chief.

The proposed appointments are expected to be voted on by the City Council at their regular meeting on June 1.

Montgomery County Mayor Jim Durrett will be nominating 10 people to join the five city members on the Charter Commission as they work to put together a charter for a new consolidated government for Clarksville-Montgomery County. There’s no word yet on when those nominations will be announced.

Both the City of Clarksville and Montgomery County have already approved separate resolutions to establish the 15-member charter commission. After being approved by the city and county, the charter for consolidated government will then be put to the voters in a referendum that could be on the ballot in 2018.
