CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Smoky Mountain Dock Dogs will hold a two day competition in Clarksville July 30 and 31 during the Tuckessee Outdoor Expo.

Dock diving has gained in popularity since ESPN added it to their Great Outdoor Games in 2000, but this event will be the first time a sanctioned dock diving event has been held in Clarksville.

Lisa Hudgens with Smoky Mountain Dock Dogs explains the three main disciplines of dock diving. “Big Air is a long jump, Speed Retrieve is like the 50 yard dash, judging how fast the dog can get to the toy at the end of the pool and Extreme Vertical is a high jump,” she said.

While it’s a great spectator sport, local pet owners can enter their dogs in the competition. “We have lots of different divisions, so even a new jumping dog can place high in their division,” Hudgens said.

“If you have a dog that likes water, that likes jumping, come give it try.”
