CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Clarksville police have issued warnings about hazardous conditions as freezing rain and snow create icy roads across the city.

The overpasses on I-24 near Exits 1, 8 and 11 have become icy due to the ice and snow.

Vehicles continue to slide off the roadway or into other vehicles on the eastbound and westbound lanes on I-24.

THP has put up signs in the westbound lanes before Exit 11, warning travelers about the icy overpass and roadway.

According to Marla Bonner with Clarksville dispatch, from 10:30 p.m. Thursday to 10 a.m. Friday there were 18 weather-related minor crashes with no reported injuries, the majority of which were on the interstate.

There were three other more serious weather related crashes on the interstate. 

According to the Clarksville Police Department and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office travel conditions throughout the city and county have not improved. Motorists are asked to stay off the roadways if at all possible.

Businesses and offices across the area have shut down for the day.

Snow will continue to fall throughout the day Friday.

A state of emergency has been declared for the state of TN.
