CLARKSVILLE, TENN. – In spite of chilly temperatures and a light rain Friday, hundreds lined up at the American Job Center at Workforce Essentials at 523 Madison Street in Clarksville at a hiring event for Hankook Tire. At this particular hiring event recruitment was for hourly production workers.

The morning session of the hiring event was scheduled from 9-Noon but so many people were in line the event opened early and in the first hour-and-a-half around 600 people had passed through the doors of the job center. An estimated 1,700 applied for production positions with 400 seeking mechanical, electrical and quality tech positions..

Ken Mangold, HR Team/Unit Manager for Hankook talked about applying for a job at Hankook. “One of the most important things is going on to the web site for Tennessee government and that is JOBS4TN.GOV, that’s the most important thing,” said Mangold.

Those attending the hiring event Friday were first registering on the site at the job center. Mangold added that the Hankook recruiters go to the site almost every hour to look over the resumes and make sure they are checked properly and then they are passed along to the hiring managers.

Charlie Koon, Director of Workforce and Economic Development at Workforce Essentials, talked about partnerships with Hankook like the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development and the American Job Center that are helping to make sure the hiring events run smoothly.

Mangold said there will be a total of about 1,010 workers employed at the Hankook Tire Plant in the Industrial Park with around 160 salaried people and around 850 hourly employees. Plans are for the plant to begin tire production in the fourth quarter of 2016.
