CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – A friend of mine who lives across the Highway 48 Bridge invited me to join him for lunch at the new Asian restaurant in the Food Lion complex. Always up for checking out a new restaurant, I agreed, even though I have been eating a lot of Asian food recently. I have to admit I was not expecting what I found as I walked into Rice Box.
From the exterior, Rice Box looks like just another business in a strip mall. Upon walking in, I was amazed at the elegant décor and beautiful simplicity of the restaurant. Much larger than it appears from the outside, Rice Box presents a lovely venue for having a large dinner party or office gathering. Immediately impressed with the setting, I was looking forward to perusing the menu.
Our waitress was attentive, but I had to send her away, as I needed more time to decide on my lunch, as the menu is quite extensive. The various categories include Appetizers, Chinese Wok Entrees, Hibachi Grill Entrees, Noodles and Rice, Healthy Food, Soup, a Kids Menu, and two entire pages of Sushi options, as well as Lunch Specials.
Wanting to try an assortment of items, I ordered Potstickers and a Vegetable Spring Roll, along with the Hibachi Shrimp with Noodles. The Potstickers are basically a fried dumpling filled with ground meat and vegetables. They were good. The Vegetable Spring Roll was a fried roll, which let me to do a little research, as I was thinking it would be fresh. (It seems it is just a matter of phrasing, and each menu may mean something different. Mental note to inquire in the future as to “fried” or “fresh.”)
My meal came with a serving of Hot and Sour Soup, which was good. The Hibachi Shrimp with Noodles came to the table shortly after the soup and was very tasty, though I was a bit dismayed that there were only four shrimp. The sauce that accompanied the meal was delicious, but I was not able to get any more information about it, as there was a language barrier between the waitress and the cooks.
Rice Box is a new restaurant, and so they may still be working out a few kinks, but it is definitely a restaurant that holds great promise of becoming a favorite, especially for people who live in the area.
