Story by Pamela Holz, Realtor with Reliant Realty
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – About a year ago, a friend of mine and I embarked on an adventure to check out the different sushi restaurants here in Clarksville. Calling ourselves the “Sushi Sistas,” we made a monthly date to go and enjoy a sushi restaurant, comparing the different delights that Clarksville’s sushi scene has to offer.
About five months into our journey, we decided to try Kohana… and that is where our journey stopped. Not because we stopped enjoying our monthly sushi meals, but because we haven’t ventured out to a different sushi place since.
This is not to say there aren’t other great sushi places here in Clarksville, as there are, but we simply have been so impressed with all of the different selections and menu options that Kohana has provided that the Sushi Sistas have kept coming back to try new ones.
Each time we are at Kohana, perusing the huge variety of choices, we have come up with a theme to assist us in our ordering. One theme was that each roll had to do something with being feminine. We ordered the Geisha, the Sexy Lady and the Spicy Girl. Another time, the theme was cars. We ordered the Bentley, the Rolls Royce, and the Golden Spider.
For our most recent visit, the theme was simply “Kohana,” in honor of this review. We ordered the Kohana and the Mother of All Sushi. The Kohana is crawfish, tempura shrimp, and avocado, deep fried, topped with special sauces, furikake, scallions, and masago. The Mother of All Sushi is a gigantic roll with spicy tuna, tempura shrimp, soft-shell crab, seasoned spicy crawfish, snow crab mix, masago, and cucumber. While it really was not possible to eat a piece of the Mother of All Sushi in one bite, it was incredibly tasty. And for the bacon lovers out there, the furikake on the Kohana roll definitely gave the flavor of smoky bacon with each bite!
Kohana not only provides cleverly named delicious sushi, they also greet you with a hot hand towel when you are seated, attentive service, and a calm environment in which to enjoy the beautiful food. They very much practice the belief that a person eats first with their eyes, and each Kohana Sushi roll is a work of art.
