CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) Dunbar Cave State Park will resume seasonal tours inside the historic cave beginning May 9.

Tickets are required and reservations are recommended.

Cave tours frequently sell out and reservations are the only way to ensure a spot.

Tours are offered every Wed – Sun at 9, 11, 1 and 3.

Cost is $14 for adults, $8 for kids ages 5 – 13. Under 5 not permitted.

Dunbar Cave has been a State Park since 1973 and it’s surrounding 110 acres is filled with scenic, natural and historical significance. The cave was a shelter to prehistoric native Americans as far back as 10,000 years ago and is the only site in the U.S. where the public can see native American Mississippian cave art.

Along with resuming the cave tours the park offers scheduled nature programs year-round for all ages, on many nature topics including birds, wildflowers, bats, geology and more.

Dunbar Cave Policies

Guests must bring a handheld flashlight. If you do not, flashlights are available for purchase in gift shop. No lanterns, cellphones, or headlamps.

The following items are not allowed on tours: backpacks, large bags, strollers, child carriers, tripods or similar items.

Photography is not allowed inside the cave due to presence Native American religious symbols. The temperature inside the cave is 58ºF. You may wish to bring a light jacket during your tour.

Cave walkways are relatively flat but muddy and/or slippery in places. Some stooping and climbing of steps is necessary. Because of the conditions of the cave, it is not handicap accessible and not recommended for people with mobility issues.

Children under the age of 5 are not permitted in the cave.

All cave tour participants must sign a liability waiver at front desk prior to entering the cave.
