CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Montgomery County Commissioners and the Civic Plaza Steering Committee reviewed schematic drawings this week that show the tentative plans for a civic square in downtown Clarksville.
Demolition began last week on what’s known as the old Bank of America building. The property covers the square block area of 2nd, Legion, 3rd, and Main Streets. Along with the bank structure, the former site of the Better Business Bureau and the Regions Bank parking lot are also part of the civic plaza project.
The drawings feature a green lawn area, seating, a visitors center, water features, a stage, gardens, and more. One drawing depicts the possibility of an ice rink during the winter.
County Mayor Jim Durrett said the drawings received a lot of positive feedback.
“It kind of shows conceptually what can be there,” he said. “It’s a whole lot packed into one city block. There are some nice areas to gather.”
The county is finalizing cost estimates, which should be complete within the next few weeks. A final completion date has not yet been set.
