CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – District 16 County Commissioner Wallace Redd announced Wednesday, Feb. 21 that he is not seeking a second term as commissioner.

A former Clarksville City Council member and longtime area business owner, Redd said that he will withdraw from the May 1 Republican primary and will not be on the ballot during the August general election.

However, he’s not leaving the political arena altogether.

“Recently I’ve received a request from some political leaders and statesmen to consider seeking another office that will become open in the near future,” Redd said in a press release. “After much prayer, Helga and I have decided to withdraw from the County Commission race.”

In addition to representing the District 16 area of the county on the 21- member commission, Redd is also seeking reelection to the State Executive Committee for the Tennessee Republican Party. He is also the Pastor at Sugar Creek Baptist Church.

Redd will serve out the remainder of his current term that expires in August.

Redd said he was proud of his conservative accomplishments as a County Commissioner. He said he worked to continue a legacy of honesty and fairness that he began as a four-term Clarksville City Councilman.

“In addition, I worked tirelessly for ethics reforms and will continue to do so,” he added. “Helga and I are very thankful for your thoughts and prayers. It is with great pride that I have had the opportunity to serve my community and humbly plan to continue to dedicate my life to public service.”
