CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A man was killed Monday evening in an accidental shooting while he was handling a firearm.
Police responded to the call at the 300 Block of Ringgold Rd. around 4:10 p.m. When they arrived, CPR was in progress for the victim in his 20s, who had a gunshot wound to the head.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Based on the preliminary investigation, police believe the man was showing a rifle to a family member and neither person knew the gun was still loaded.
The victim was standing in front of the rifle when the trigger was pulled and he sustained a gunshot wound.
Police said there are no charges pending at this time and the incident appears to be a case of mishandling of a loaded weapon.
The investigation is ongoing.
