CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A man has been charged in the death and sexual assault of his infant daughter.

Police responded to Cindy Jo Ct. Nov. 14 around 7:19 a.m. to a medical call of CPR in progress. The child was transported to Tennova and was pronounced dead at around 8 a.m.

The special operations unit homicide detectives took over the investigation and determined the nine-month-old female infant had been sexually assaulted and that a cord was wrapped around her neck, causing her death.

Police said the child’s father, 22-year-old Christopher Conway, was responsible for her assault and death.

On Nov. 15 around 4:18 a.m., Conway was booked into the Montgomery County Jail and charged with homicide and aggravated rape of a child.

His bond for the rape was set at $100,000 but there is no bond on homicide the charges.

An arrest warrant for Conway says he is employed by the U.S. Army. According to a spokesperson with Fort Campbell who spoke to News 2, Conway is currently enlisted as a medic in the U.S. Army. His Facebook page says he is a combat medic and that he’s from Grand Bay, Alabama.

The warrant states that Conway admitted to the rape and murder charges during an interview with detectives.

The Department of Children’s Services confirmed to WKRN News 2 it is investigating the case and the twin has been removed from the home. She is currently in foster care.

Conway has a preliminary hearing in General Sessions Court scheduled for Nov. 21 at 1:30 p.m.
