Today it is becoming more acceptable to skip or delay vaccinations. Parents are asking: Why so many vaccines? How can so many vaccines be safe for a two month old? Why should I put my child at risk for developing Autism?
Because of these and other relevant questions, parents are skipping and/or delaying vaccines because they want to protect their babies. Unfortunately, unvaccinated babies are most vulnerable to severe and potentially life-threatening diseases. There is no reputable evidence that vaccines cause Autism or any other disease or illness. However, our history is filled with evidence of the death and disability caused by the diseases that are rarely seen now that vaccinations are standard practice.
As clinicians it is important to give answers and have meaningful discussion with parents who now believe that vaccinations are more dangerous than the diseases they are meant to protect against. Parents are often basing their decisions on advice from misinformed family and friends or poorly designed and conducted studies with misleading and often completely false information.
If you are a parent who has or is contemplating not vaccinating your infant, Elite Primary Care would love to have this discussion with you. At Elite Primary Care we fully support full vaccination of infants but we will never force vaccination on any infant of parents who choose to delay or forego vaccination.
