CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – A sinkhole was recently discovered on the Austin Peay State University (APSU) Governors Stadium Field.
According to Bill Persinger, Executive Director for Public Relations, the hole was originally found several weeks ago, but at the time it was approximately three to five feet deep.
During the remediation process, workers realized the hole was much larger than originally thought. As of Monday, May 19, the sinkhole was 40 feet deep and nearly 40 feet in circumference, according to Persinger.
The hole did not damage any of the current construction and will not affect the timeline or opening of the new stadium.
APSU project managers, the construction company, and local engineers met Monday to determine what needs to be done to close the hole and prevent further damage to the field.
The campus landscape is made up of many covered sinkholes, which are known at APSU as “bowls”.
