CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Two men were arrested Thursday in Montgomery County after deputies found them in possession of nearly $3,000 in counterfeit $100 bills.
Sheriff’s spokesman Jamie Dexter said Jamal Hicks, 28, and Maurice Goodwin, 27, were pulled over by Deputy Dan Gagnon after he spotted them speeding past his cruiser on Dover Road Thursday.
Gagnon called in K9 Deputy Kelley Potter who brought K9 Mallie to sniff the vehicle and alerted Potter to a small amount of cocaine. Investigators also found $2,900 in counterfeit bills inside the car.
“Our community has had a problem with counterfeit bills lately, and we are trying to get to the bottom of where they are coming from,” said Investigator Geoffrey Blanchard.
It’s not known if this case is related to other recent counterfeit cases now being investigated by the Clarksville Police Department.
Hicks and Goodwin were booked into the Montgomery County jail and charged with criminal simulation. Goodwin was cited for simple possession, while Hicks was charged with driving on a suspended license and speeding.
Their bonds were set at $5,000 each.
