EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ. – The 101st Combat Aviation Brigade conducted a practice helicopter flyover Saturday afternoon in preparation for Super Bowl XLVIII Feb. 2.
The aircraft formation for Sunday includes AH-64D Apache Helicopters, UH-60M Blackhawk Helicopters, and CH-47F Chinook Helicopters flying over MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey as a salute to our Nation’s Armed Forces.
The helicopters will showcase the many skills of Army aviators. This mission is realistic training for the unit and prepares them for low-level flights in urban environments; missions they regularly conduct daily when deployed.
“Preparing for a flyover requires hours of preparation and practice,” Said Capt. David Addams, Bravo Company Commander, 5th Battalion, 101st CAB. “It’s all worth it for those few seconds we get to represent our Nation’s Armed Forces.”
Soldiers from the 101st CAB are part of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) from Fort Campbell, KY. Many of the pilots and flight crew members were deployed last year to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
“It is an honor to be doing this (event),” said Chief Warrant Officer 4 James E. Morrow III, an Apache pilot with 1st Battalion, 101st CAB. “Last year I was watching the Super Bowl from Forward Operating Base Salerno and now I am going to have the chance to participate in a way I could have never imagined.”
