CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Runners of all ages participated in the annual Run For Your Lives Zombie Fun Run on October 11 at Rotary Park.

The event raised over $3,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF) in the form of research, care and education for affected families.

According to the CFF, Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is a life-threatening genetic disease that primarily affects the lungs and digestive system. An estimated 30,000 children and adults in the United States (70,000 worldwide) have CF.

Because of events like the Zombie Fun Run and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s use 90 percent of all fundraising dollars for research, the gene that causes cystic fibrosis has now been discovered.

Proof of the concept that gene therapy is possible has been found, and CF Care Centers are providing specialized care with treatments targeting the disease on a cellular level. Currently, there is also hope of finding a cure in the near future.

The Clarksville Cystic Fibrosis Group hosts events year-round to support the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and local families.

Receiving no government funding, the CFF is mostly operated by volunteers.
