CLARKSVILLE, Tenn.– Members of local Zeta Phi Beta sorority and other members of the National Panhellenic community participated in the annual MLK Day of Service at Burt Elementary School.

The local chapter, Rho Mu Zeta, donated over 3,000 items to Serenity House Women’s Shelter as a part of Zeta Phi Beta’s Global Day of Service.

The event was held on Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday, January 16, which is also the founding date of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated. Similar events like this took place around the globe as Zetas supported the 2017 Year of Service initiative. Live streaming videos of the events can be found on Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Centennial Facebook page.

“Helping women and children was part of the vision of Martin Luther King, Jr. While his vision was that of equity, it is hard to promote equity when people’s basic needs are not being met.” said Dr. Erin Lynch-Alexander, President of Rho Mu Zeta-Clarksville.

The Rho Mu Zeta Chapter made a positive impact on the Clarksville community by serving the women and children served through Serenity House.

“The donations will help women and children who are transitioning in their new homes. It is because of organizations such as Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. that we are able to thrive and help provide sustainability for the target population we serve” said Dr. Toi Dennis, Executive Director and Founder of Serenity House.
