CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The Clarksville Youth Coalition brightened the day for 51 senior citizens Friday by donating gift bags at Walking Horse Meadows.
“It’s very nice, especially during this pandemic. Anytime we have gifts for the residents it’s a real blessing,” said Activities Director Summers Brawley.
Each gift bag contained personal care items like body wash, soap, lotion, mouthwash, deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, socks, and tissues. The young people of the Youth Coalition put the gift bags together as part of a community service project.
The Youth Coalition is a nonprofit organization that serves young people at risk who have been referred from Juvenile Court for charges related to juvenile crime. The program is also open to any youth who may be referred by schools, parents, and other community agency personnel.
The original Youth Coalition program was founded in 2007 by Clarksville Police Officer, Cleveland Marshall. After a break for the program in the community, it was reactivated in February of this year and Marshall, who is retired from the Clarksville Police Department, currently serves as Executive Director.
