CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The YMCA of Middle Tennessee is joining hands with partners across the country in encouraging people to participate in #GivingTuesday—a first of its kind effort that will harness the collective power of a unique blend of partners—charities, families, businesses and individuals—to transform how people think about, talk about and participate in the giving season.

Taking place the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, #GivingTuesday will harness the power of social media to create anational moment around the holidays dedicated to giving, similar to how Black Friday and Cyber Monday have becomedays that are, today, synonymous with holiday shopping.

The YMCA of Middle Tennessee is a local #GivingTuesday partner and hopes it will inspire people to take collaborative action to improve their local communities, give back in better, smarter ways to the charities and causes they support and help create a better world.

“We will be one of many nonprofits across our community and nation coming together for a movement to celebrate giving and giving back during the Holiday Season.” said Chris Stowers, Senior Vice President of Philanthropy for the YMCA of Middle Tennessee. “I’m excited about this easy way to engage so many people in our charitable mission and to transform how people think, talk and participate in the giving season.”

As a charitable organization, the Y serves the local community through a focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Those who are interested in joining the Y’s #GivingTuesday initiative can visitwww.give.ymcamidtn.org or their local center for more information on how to participate.
