CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Clarksville and Montgomery County officials held a wreath-laying ceremony on Wednesday at the base of the Eternal Flame on Public Square downtown.
The Eternal Flame was erected in 2004 by the Military Affairs Committee of the Clarksville Area Chamber of Commerce to honor and remember service members for their sacrifice. The 30-foot-tall monument that houses the flame is known as the “Pillar of Cloud, Pillar of Fire.”
Brig. Gen. John Lubas and Command Sgt. Maj. Amar Fofana, with the 101st Airborne Division from Fort Campbell placed the wreath at the site.
“It’s incredibly meaningful for the sergeant major and I to be here today, especially in this community, which supports not just our veterans past and present, but all the soldiers at Fort Campbell. I don’t think there’s a better way to symbolize the constant support for our veterans than the eternal flame,” Lubas said.
The event was also highlighted by the announcement and unveiling from the Montgomery County Veterans Service Organization (VSO) that a section of Tiny Town Road has been designated as the Veterans Parkway.
VSO Director Andrew Kester said the Veterans Parkway was a joint effort involving the VSO and the City of Clarksville. Signs are placed on Tiny Town Road for the Veterans Parkway, which stretches between Peachers Mill Road and Fort Campbell Boulevard.
The end of the road will lead past Fort Campbell Boulevard directly into the planned Tennessee Wings of Liberty Museum.
