NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A local wounded veteran and his family received the surprise of a lifetime after they were told they would be given a new mortgage-free home in Clarksville Thursday.

WKRN News 2 reports that U.S. Army Sergeant David Hannah and his family were under the impression that they would be attending an interview at the Renaissance Hotel in Nashville. Operation FINALLY HOME and local builder Morgan and Son Homes, Inc. then told the family the great news.

Sgt. Hannah joined the military in 2004 and earned several awards, including a Purple Heart. He was deployed to Iraq in October 2005, where he was severely injured after his base was struck by a mortar round.

He was moved to Walter Reed Army Medical Center where he was treated for a broken leg, a punctured lung, a lacerated liver, shrapnel wounds, and a severe traumatic brain injury.

Hannah retired in 2011 and still suffers from PTSD, anxiety, depression, tinnitus, and memory loss.

He and his wife, along with their four children, accepted the keys to their new home in Clarksville Friday afternoon during a special ceremony. See photos of the event below:
