CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Clarksville police have located another suspect wanted for theft and forgery in a recent postal theft case.
Kaitlin Patterson, 29, has allegedly been associated with the mail thefts utilizing a postal service master key. She was picked up in Hopewell, Virginia around 6:30 p.m. on September 26.
CPD spokesman Jim Knoll said Officer Tim Simulis was instrumental in tracking her down and was in contact with authorities in Virginia.
Hopewell officers took Patterson into custody on three outstanding warrants from Clarksville for criminal conspiracy for forgery, criminal conspiracy for identity theft, and violation of probation. She is awaiting extradition to Clarksville.
Police said Patterson and other suspects used a postal master key to gain access to the blue postal and apartment mailboxes in Clarksville. The key still has not been located, so citizens are advised to monitor their accounts and follow up on mailed checks and those expected to be delivered.
There have already been search warrants executed in Murfreesboro where mail and equipment to alter or duplicate checks were located.
Reports of forged or stolen checks date back to May 2018, and new victims continue to file reports. Police said there may be other accomplices in what appears to be a well-organized scheme.
Adam Perelli, 39, an associated of Patterson’s, was already charged with six counts of forgery and two counts of conspiracy on September 5 with more charges pending.
The investigation is ongoing and more charges are expected. Anyone with information can contact Detective Beaubien at 931-648-0656 ext. 5145, the TIPSline at 931-645-8477, or submit a tip anonymously at P3tips.com/591.
