CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – A woman was arrested Wednesday morning for attempting to carry a concealed firearm into the Montgomery County Courthouse.

According to a press release from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Elizabeth Rita Walthour arrived at the courthouse for a 10:30 a.m. arraignment hearing.

As part of security protocol, all belongings are sent through an x-ray machine and visitors go through a metal detector. Deputies detected a gun in Walthour’s purse while in the x-ray machine. Upon physical examination of her purse, deputies found a loaded revolver containing three rounds.

Walthour was immediately detained for questioning. She was charged with carrying a weapon during judicial proceedings. Her bond was set at $25,000.

Walthour’s arraignment was for a failure to appear for a traffic citation. Walthour does not have a conceal carry permit.

“The Court Security Deputies scan thousands of pieces of personal property,” said Sheriff Fuson. “This just highlights the importance of the job we have to do in order to keep our courthouse secure and the people inside safe.”

No injuries were reported.
