HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (WKRN) — A 10-year-old boy and an 87-year-old woman were found dead inside of a home in Hopkinsville, Kentucky after a weekend fire.

Hopkinsville firefighters responded around 10:30 p.m. Saturday to a fire at a residence on North McPherson Avenue near Fowler Avenue. When crews arrived, they said the home was in flames.

According to the Christian County coroner, firefighters discovered the bodies of 10-year-old Alvin Davidson and 87-year-old Martha Anne Harris in a back bedroom of the home. The two appeared to have died from smoke inhalation, the coroner added.

While the fire apparently started in the home’s living room, the cause remains under investigation.

Alvin Davidson was a third grader at Freedom Elementary in Hopkinsville, the school said in a statement, adding “our heartfelt sympathy goes out to the entire family.” The school added there will be a crisis team at Freedom Elementary Monday to assist grieving students and staff.
